Mourning god of repetition
a cheap bottle for the days end
with all the blue and grays we’ve ever mixed
crying out the same
who left him here?
in such splendor to fizzle out
no dawn could justify the hours spent
awash in drink and paint
sliding down a wall
the neighbors hear his cries and cops knock at the door
strange noises in the hallway, he thinks.
then an unending rain of thought floods forth
a surge of new brilliance
sending his arms flailing like bug things
a dying mantis
the bastards at the door are screaming
guns drawn
His head collapses with the weight of inspiration
the penalty of a dream
unable to stand he melts
throwing bottles at the door
